Drawing 1   no prerequisite required

New! Drawing is the foundation of Art and Design! Do you want to learn to draw? Do you want to learn to draw correctly? This course is for beginners and also for students who draw, but want to learn to do so correctly. No experience is necessary. One doesn't take a drawing class because you know how to draw. You take one to learn how! This course starts with the basics and builds on those foundations. You will learn the best Classical and contemporary techniques.
Drawing focuses on black and white or monochromatic rendering from life, pictures, masterworks, and imagination. With an emphasis on studio production, this course is designed to develop higher-level thinking, art-related technical skill, art criticism, art history, and aesthetics.
In this class, art students will study to learn how to draw with realistic accuracy from observation with an emphasis on rendering form convincingly. The exercises will take from 1-4 hours per week. The foundation rests on an intensive study of what we see, rendering casts or plates of classical sculpture, and emulation. The goal is to make students adept at observation, theory, and craft while absorbing classical ideals of beauty. Moreover, students will learn how to draw items and images seen in their mind's eye using structural and form giving techniques from numerous sources. They will then render these images using the skills obtained while learning to draw from observation. There are two books, a basic scanner, and drawing supplies required for the course.
